The Discussion > Shoveling Snow

I was wondering about the ordiance that was proposed last year regarding shoveling sidewalks. Is that alive? I for one have a dog and walk him in winter and find it very annoying when my neighbors do not shovel their sidewalks or even attempt to do so, especially when they live on a corner lot. Please tell me that something will happen with this. Heck, the city could use it as a way to generate more revenue by fining those that do not shovel.

Sorry I missed this post Mike. To answer your question, it is my understanding that the City does have an ordinance on the books that requires residents and businesses to clear the sidewalks in front of their home/business after a certain amount of snowfall. Shoot me an email when you observe a problem and I will have an inspector send a warning letter to the home in question. Then, the inspector will follow up to make sure the home stays in compliance.

Michael, I too had an snow shoveling issue with a neighbor of mine. Matt was quite quick and helpful with providing the inspector with the non-compliant neighbor's info. Since then clean sidewalks. Thanks again Matt.
