Relay for Life Kickoff: 3/4/10

The Relay for Life Kick-Off is being held at Guiseppe's Restaurant on Lee St this Thursday, March 4th from 6:30- 8pm. Come learn about Relay, what it takes to form a team, and how to get involved. Free pizza and pop will be available.

The Des Plaines/Park Ridge Relay for Life will be held in the Maine West football stadium from 6pm Friday June 25 until 6am June 26th! Recycle Your Computer for Free

The Des Plaines Public Works & Engineering Department announces that the local Deep Green Committee, the City of Des Plaines, and PC Rebuilders and Recyclers (PCRR) are partnering to co-host a free Electronics Recycling Event taking place on Saturday, March 27 from 9am-Noon at Public Works located at 1111 Joseph J. Schwab Road.

Des Plaines residents interested in recycling their old electronics are encouraged to bring their items to this event. Acceptable items include: all computer components, phone equipment, hand-held electronics, DVD’s, VCR’s and televisions. This is a one day event. Residents are reminded that the Public Works facility in not a year round recycling facility. For more information, call the City of Des Plaines 847-391-5300 or PCRR 800-939-6000.

Support Teen Alcohol/Drug Prevention

Support the Maine Community Youth Assistance Foundation and their Executive Director (and 3rd Ward Resident) Margaret Polovchak as they raise funds to combat teen alcohol and drug abuse in Des Plaines and the broader Maine Township Community. The fundraiser will be held at Cheesburger in Paradise in Metropolitan Square on Tuesday, February 23rd from 5-8pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Topic: The Proposed Form Based Zoning Ordinance

What will your neighborhood look like in the next 10, 20, or 30 years? The Des Plaines Zoning Board has been working to revise the City's zoning ordinance with the goal of preserving neighborhood's values while preparing for future growth. This month's 3rd Ward Meeting will feature our second Des Plaines 101 presentation. Learn about the proposed Form Based Zoning ordinance and give me your thoughts before we begin the debate in Council Chambers. Please consider bringing a neighbor; the best public policy is not made in private.
